Your Rights

As a student receiving financial aid, you have the right to:

  1. Be informed about all available federal, state, and institutional aid programs.
  2. Understand how your financial need is determined, including what resources were considered.
  3. Know the total amount of your financial need that is being met by UOS.
  4. Be aware of deadlines for submitting applications for financial aid programs.
  5. Request a re-evaluation of your aid if your financial situation changes.
  6. Understand the terms and conditions of student employment and assistantships.
  7. Receive full information on any loans you accept, including repayment terms, interest rates, and conditions.
  8. Learn how financial aid will be disbursed and the frequency of disbursements.
  9. Know the eligibility criteria for maintaining financial aid.
  10. Be informed of your department’s academic progress standards and how to regain eligibility if lost.
  11. Receive detailed exit counseling information about loans and repayment requirements upon graduation.

Your Responsibilities

As a financial aid recipient, you are responsible for:

  1. Reapplying for financial aid each year by the published deadlines.
  2. Reviewing and understanding your financial aid terms annually.
  3. Reporting all external funding or additional resources to the Graduate School.
  4. Repaying any loans received.
  5. Fully understanding any forms or agreements you sign.
  6. Providing accurate and complete information to the Graduate School.
  7. Submitting all requested documents promptly to avoid processing delays.
  8. Using financial aid exclusively for education-related expenses.
