Student Conduct & Community Standards

The University of Ontological Science (UOS) is deeply committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and supportive educational environment. The university holds each member of its community accountable for maintaining high standards of personal conduct that reflect the university’s values of integrity, mutual respect, and academic excellence. To achieve this, UOS upholds clear policies, regulations, and disciplinary procedures to guide student behavior and ensure a thriving community.

Community Expectations and Responsibilities

All students at UOS are expected to conduct themselves with integrity and respect for others, embodying the university’s principles of academic inquiry, intellectual freedom, and mutual support. Detailed guidelines and regulations governing student conduct can be found in the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook, which outlines expectations for personal behavior, academic integrity, and community standards.

Resolving Conflict in the UOS Community

Conflict is a natural part of life in any community. At UOS, students are encouraged to address conflicts directly and civilly through honest and respectful communication. When conflicts cannot be resolved through personal dialogue, the university provides additional resources and support to help students reach resolutions.

Resources for Conflict Resolution:

Office of Student Affairs:

Provides guidance and mediation for conflicts involving interpersonal issues, group dynamics, and other community concerns.

Campus Safety and Security:

Any situation involving threats, violence, or other immediate safety concerns should be reported immediately by calling the campus security hotline.

Office of Mediation and Resolution:

Offers confidential consultations, conflict coaching, and formal mediation services to help resolve disputes in a fair and respectful manner.

No Communication / No Contact Orders

In specific situations, UOS may issue No Communication or No Contact Orders to protect the safety and well-being of individuals within the community. These orders are used in limited circumstances, such as:

Temporary Protection:

In cases of significant interpersonal conflict or altercations, a temporary No Communication Order may be issued until the situation can be reviewed and addressed. Typically, this order remains in effect until the next business day.

Disciplinary Sanctions:

When a student is found responsible for a violation of the Student Conduct Code, a No Contact Order may be included as part of the disciplinary action to prevent future interactions between involved parties.

Students seeking information about No Contact Orders, particularly in cases involving harassment, stalking, or sexual misconduct, are encouraged to contact the Office of Student Support Services or the ICC Coordinator for guidance and assistance.

Complaint & Grievance Resolution

UOS provides multiple avenues for students to voice concerns and address grievances. The Office of Student Affairs offers support and guidance on the following issues:

  • Complaints and grievances against other students
  • Concerns regarding university policies and general conduct
  • Matters involving harassment, discrimination, or bias
  • Personal safety and security concerns

Students experiencing discrimination, harassment, or related concerns may contact the Director for Equal Opportunity or the ICC Coordinator to discuss available options and resources.

For detailed information on filing a complaint or accessing grievance procedures, students should refer to the University Policy on Nondiscrimination and Grievance Resolution, which outlines available resources and steps for addressing complaints.

Freedom of Expression

UOS upholds the fundamental principles of free speech and peaceable assembly as essential components of academic life. The university encourages open dialogue and the free exchange of ideas while maintaining an environment that supports scholarly pursuits and mutual respect.

Sexual Misconduct Policy

UOS is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all community members. The university’s Sexual Misconduct Policy outlines prohibited behaviors, available resources, and procedures for reporting and addressing incidents of sexual misconduct.

Resources and Reporting Options:

Office of Gender Equality:

Offers information on reporting options, investigative procedures, and supportive measures.

Confidential Support Services:

Students who have experienced or witnessed incidents of sexual misconduct are encouraged to seek assistance from confidential counselors who can provide support and help explore available options.

Students may choose from several reporting options, including confidential consultations, informal resolution processes, or formal complaints through the ICC Office. The university acknowledges that deciding how to proceed can be challenging and offers comprehensive support to help students make informed decisions.
